Savory French Toast

This savory take on a brunch classic is soaked in a custard infused with garlic, salt, and pepper. Just cook until golden-brown and top as desired.

Ingredients

  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • ¼ cup heavy cream
  • 6 cloves garlic minced or finely grated
  • ½ tsp Kosher salt
  • ¼ tsp pepper
  • 4 slices sandwich bread preferably sourdough and/or whole wheat
  • Butter or nonstick spray
  • Toppings as desired

Instructions

  • In a medium bowl whisk together eggs, milk, heavy cream, garlic, salt, and pepper.
  • Pour batter into a shallow pan. Place bread into batter and soak for about 2-3 minutes per side, or until thoroughly soaked. Keep bread in batter for longer as needed if it is thick or stale.
  • Preheat a griddle or skillet on medium heat. Grease pan with butter or nonstick spray. Place bread on pan and cook for about 4-6 minutes per side, or until browned and cooked through.
