A savory take on a classic brunch favorite.
Plump, custardy slices of golden-brown French toast are always a special weekend treat. This version has all the lovable qualities of the original but instead of sugar and vanilla, this one is infused with garlic, salt, and pepper. This transforms it from a sweet indulgence to an equally enticing savory dish that you can enjoy for dinner just as well as brunch. While regular French toast is best with a white enriched bread, this variation benefits from a nutty whole wheat loaf or a tangy sourdough (even better is both: check out my Honey Whole Wheat Sourdough Sandwich Bread). Keep it all savory with a topping of sautéed veggies and mushrooms, sausage or bacon, and a finishing of pesto or tomato sauce. Or go for a sweet and savory mashup with fried chicken, miso butter, and maple syrup. However you choose to dress it, be prepared for a new taste sensation.
