Honey & Everything Seasoned Dutch Oven Popcorn

A sweet honey popcorn with a savory everything seasoning kick.

Popcorn is usually either sweet or savory, but it can be even more delicious when it’s both. Such is the case with this popcorn. While the popcorn is popping, melt the butter and mix in honey. Then add in a homemade mix of dried onion, garlic, sesame seeds, poppy seeds, and salt. Toss it together with the crisp, freshly popped popcorn and you’ve got a delicious, sweet and salty snack.

Honey & Everything Seasoned Stovetop Popcorn

While its popularity may have started with bagels, everything seasoning is a delicious mix of seeds and dried aromatics that can be used to flavor anything from eggs to roasted meats and vegetables. For this recipe a homemade everything seasoning blend is mixed into melted butter along with a bit of honey, which is then used to coat crisp, freshly popped Dutch oven popcorn. With this sweet and savory snack in hand you’ll be ready for a movie, game night, or just some good old fashioned lounging on the couch.

Ingredients

  • 2 tsp dried minced onion
  • 2 tsp sesame seeds
  • 2 tsp poppy seeds
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 tsp coconut oil
  • 1/3 cup popcorn kernels
  • 4 tbsp butter
  • 1 tbsp honey

Instructions

  • In a small bowl combine dried minced onion, sesame seeds, poppy seeds, garlic powder, and salt. Set aside.
  • Add coconut oil to a Dutch oven and place over medium-high heat.
  • When the oil begins to lightly smoke add the popcorn kernels and stir continuously until they start to pop. Cover with lid and reduce heat to medium-low. Give the pot an occasional shake. When popping becomes infrequent turn off heat and remove lid (some popping may continue as it cools).
  • While popcorn is popping melt butter in a skillet or saucepan over low heat. When melted and bubbling add honey and stir until combined. Add everything seasoning from step 1 and stir to combine.
  • Pour half of the butter mixture over popcorn and toss. Pour remaining butter over popcorn and toss again to coat.

Notes

If you have a premade everything seasoning mix substitute about 2.5 tbsp for the seeds, seasonings, and salt. Adjust salt to taste as needed depending on the amount in the mix. If you don’t have a Dutch oven any heavy covered pot will work.
